Ski Goggles

Giro Ski Goggles with VIVID Lens Technology

Giro ski goggles, also known as snow goggles, are built around two core technologies: VIVID optics for contrast and terrain definition, and EXV frame geometry for a wider field of view. The range runs from entry-level cylindrical designs to toric lenses with magnetic interchangeable systems, covering skiers and snowboarders from beginners to racing athletes.

How to choose ski goggles

What type of ski goggles are best?

The best type depends on your typical conditions and face shape rather than one style suiting everyone. Toric lenses, Giro's take on spherical lenses, curve both horizontally and vertically to follow the shape of the eye, giving wider peripheral vision and more air volume inside the goggle to help prevent fogging. Cylindrical lenses curve only horizontally and are a more affordable all-round choice. If you ski in changing conditions, many interchangeable lens ski goggles use magnetic systems, which make swapping lenses on the mountain quick and secure. How to choose ski and snowboard goggles goes through each factor in more detail.

Which lens tint should I choose?

Choose by VLT (Visible Light Transmission) rather than by colour. VLT is the percentage of light the lens lets through. Dark, low VLT lenses, often with a mirrored finish, suit bright sunny days. All weather ski goggles handle a mix of sun and cloud without lens swaps, while low light ski goggles let more light through for snowfall, fog and flat light. Photochromic lenses go a step further, adjusting their tint automatically as the light changes. Our guide to what VLT means explains the numbers in detail.

What is VIVID lens technology?

VIVID is a lens technology developed by Giro and ZEISS® Optics to improve contrast and definition on snow. Flat light is the most difficult condition to ski in: when contrast drops, snow texture becomes harder to read and terrain changes are easier to miss. VIVID ski goggles address this by letting in contrast-enhancing blue light while blocking harmful UV rays, so you can read the terrain and react sooner.

VIVID is not a tint but a lens formulation that works across different VLT categories, from bright-sun lenses to storm lenses. For a full technical breakdown, see VIVID lens technology.

Ski goggles and helmet compatibility

Ski goggles and helmets work best as a system. Giro goggles are designed for Seamless Compatibility with Giro ski helmets, closing the gap at the forehead that can expose skin to the cold and keeping air moving across the top of the lens to help reduce fogging.

Frequently asked questions

Are ski goggles and snowboard goggles the same?

Yes. There is no technical difference between ski and snowboard goggles: Giro goggles are designed for both, with the same lenses, frames and helmet integration whichever you ride.

Do you really need ski goggles?

Yes, for skiing on the mountain. Sunglasses do not seal against the face, which leaves gaps that let in wind, snow and cold air at speed, and they do not integrate with a ski helmet. Goggles provide full sealing, UV protection across the entire field of vision and direct compatibility with helmets. In poor visibility, contrast-enhancing lenses also make the terrain easier to read than sunglasses can.

Can you wear glasses under ski goggles?

Yes. OTG ski goggles (Over The Glasses) are designed specifically for this. They have a deeper internal frame profile and channels in the face foam at the temples, so the arms of your glasses sit naturally without breaking the seal. Standard goggles are not built with this extra depth and will not fit comfortably over frames.

What size ski goggles do I need?

Most adult Giro ski goggles come in a single adult size, with foam and frame profiles shaped to seal well against most faces and helmets. If you have a smaller face, women's ski goggles include styles with more compact frames. For children, kids ski goggles are the right choice, since adult frames do not give the right coverage or seal on smaller faces, which affects both protection and peripheral vision.

How do I clean ski goggles?

Let the goggles dry naturally at room temperature after skiing. Once dry, clean the inner lens only with a microfibre cloth. Never wipe the lens while it is wet, as this can permanently damage the anti-fog coating, and avoid paper products, clothing or unapproved sprays. The outer lens is more resilient but should be treated the same way. Full guidance, including storage tips, is in how to clean snow goggles.
