How To Clean Ski or Snowboard Goggles
Properly cleaning your ski or snowboard goggles can significantly help extend the life of your goggles. Improper care causes scratches on the lenses, removal of anti-fog coatings, or prematurely deteriorating foam. Here’s a few tips and tricks to keeping your goggles clean and clear.
First, do not use any paper products, including Kleenex® or similar tissue, and do not use your gloves, shirt, jacket, etc. Instead use a microfiber cloth (or microfiber goggle bag) if anything.
To clean the outside of the goggle lens you can breathe on the lens to create moisture vapor and gently blot the outside lens with a soft microfiber cloth.
If there is snow on your goggles do not wipe it off, you can shake the snow off, let the snow melt and then shake the water off, or dab it with a microfiber cloth if needed.
To clean the inside of your lens gently dab the lens rather than wiping it. Wiping can remove the anti-fog coating. Do not use household or chemical cleaners as this could also remove the coating.
Giro goggles make it easy to remove the lenses if you want to get a deeper clean on the frame itself. Look for goggles with the SNAPSHOT Magnetic Interchange Lens System, Quick-Change Lens System, Quick-Change Magnetic-assisted Lens System, or the Slash Seal Lens Interchange System.
When it comes to foam care, it is important to keep it as dry as possible. If it does get wet, which is inevitable with sweat and/or melted snow, let it air dry completely before storing. If you need to clean the foam we suggest a light amount of dish soap, then gently brush and wash while allowing plenty of time to completely dry.
How To Store Goggles
Make sure to remove your goggles from their bag, or your gear pack, and store goggles in a dry, warm, well-ventilated area so they are sufficiently dried out after each use. Do not keep them in extremely hot or cold conditions. Exposure to direct sunlight for extended periods of time could also warp the frame or wear down the foam.
After the goggles have completely dried, put them in a goggle bag or dedicated goggle box which will help protect them from damage when stored.
Giro sells a huge selection of replacement lenses for its goggles, should any lens damage occur.
